Day 2: Early morning you will drive to Pavona or will be picked up to go to Tortuguero. You will pass by the Braulio Carrillo National Park and admire the biodiversity of an astonishing protected area in Costa Rica, a primary forest in 95% of its extension. Then you will stop for breakfast and will board a comfortable boat upon arrival to the port and let this extraordinarily exotic paradise enchant you, as you travel along the Tortuguero Channels. You will have a one-in-a-lifetime experience in this unique place surrounded by a great variety of flora and fauna of breathtaking beauty. Day 3:You will discover the flavors of Costa Rica with breakfast at the Lodge and then you will hike through the Lodge's private trail to see the biodiversity around it. Day 4:Today you will be picked up or drive to Puerto Viejo, to the amazing Caribbean. Today you will have the free afternoon to enjoy the pristine beaches. Night in Azania Bungalows or Similar. Standard bungalow***(B/L/-)
Day 5:You will have a day tour to the national Park Cahuita. The tour includes two parts, the hike in the National Park Cahuita and then snorkeling. A guide will take you to different points between Punta Cahuita and the town of Cahuita (7 km) observing various types of animals and flora. Then or before depending of the tide you will do the snorkeling and will take a boat around the National Park of Cahuita, which has the most biodiversity per square meter in the world; you can practice snorkeling for approximately two hours in the Reef which is the most important coral in Costa Rica, observing 35 distinct species of coral, 123 species of fish tropical, 3 species of Sharks, 6 species of moray eels, 3 species of hedgehogs, 140 mollusks, 44 crustaceans, 128 seaweed, sea turtles, sea cucumbers, sea sponges, lobsters, shrimp, among others. Day 6:Today you will have an early pick up for the adventure of the White Water rafting in Pacuare River. The Pacuare River is one of the best choices for your adventures in Costa Rica. No other trip in the country exists that offers you a perfect blend of wilderness exposure and excitement, all in one day. Pacuare river is world famous for its sheer beauty. A true river gorge, it is flanked by steep, green walls. Here you enjoy the feeling of total isolation from urban life and the realness of being connected with nature. You see waterfalls cascade into the river from both sides as colorful, tropical birds fly right over your head. Amazing views of this virgin tropical rainforest area, appear before your eyes as you descend this true exploratory land. Wildlife is abundant, with sloth, toucans, parrots, coatis, morpho butterflies and colorful frogs being common sights. The white water that is equally exciting. It is not an overly challenging river, but it has a lot of rapids, therefore giving you an adventure filled with lots of fun. The 18 mile one-day run includes a total of 52 rapids. Few rivers in the world can offer you so many. Upon arrival to the river we will gear you up with a life jacket, helmet and paddle and then brief you with a full safety orientation talk. Day 7: Today you will have the free day. We recommend you to rent a bike and ride along the coast stopping in the different beaches of the Caribbean side: Playa Cocles, Playa Chiquita, Punta Uva and Manzanillo. Day 3:You will drive or can be picked up to go to the Santa Elena’s Reserve Cloud forest, exploring and discovering the corners of the Reserve, they offer a network of 5 trails enabled for your personal experience. From a short walk on a path adapted to accessibility and law 7600, for children, seniors and for people with different abilities (Young World Trail), to a completely natural trail for those who like adventure and steep routes (Caño Trail Black). Then in the afternoon you will enjoy the only zip-line tour built entirely inside the cloud forest. In this tour, visitors cross through the unique cloud forest canopy suspended over the forest while attached to high weight-capacity cables and using the specialized climbing gear. Day 4:You will drive or picked up to go to La Fortuna. A charming and quiet town. La Fortuna is easily accessible from the capital city San Jose (about a 3,5 hour drive), and offers some panoramic views of the spectacular Arenal Volcano, until December 2010 it was Costa Rica’s most active volcano. Day 5:Today you will be picked up after breakfast to do the Combination Tour with Hanging Bridges, Waterfall Fortuna, trail 1968 Volcano and hot springs. You will start the tour visiting the hanging bridges option consists of a hike on a 1.9 mile (3.1 km) trail on which you can enjoy the rain forest flora and fauna. The trail crosses nine fixed bridges and six suspended bridges which is laid out at a maximum grade of seven degrees so that anyone can walk it. The next stop is the La Fortuna Waterfall. From the trail head you will hike approximately 15 minutes before reaching this majestic waterfall where you can swim or just enjoy its beauty. Lunch is next in a restaurant in the area of La Fortuna. Following lunch, you’ll have the opportunity to rest before embarking on the volcano hike. You will enjoy a very educative walk, the naturalist guide will introduce you to the geological formation of the area and the regeneration of flora since the last volcano eruption. Day 6:You will wake up with the birds sounds and then go to breakfast. After the early breakfast, you will be picked up to do this unique hike combines natures beauty with a great opportunity to observe the wonderful flora and fauna of Bijagua. During your hike through the Tenorio Volcano National Park you will pass by the Celeste River Lagoon and walk along two crystal clear streams which come together to form the Rio Celeste. Here the clear water mysteriously changes into a beautiful bright, light-blue color (hence the name “Light-Blue- River”). Walking along jungle trails we visit an area where volcanic smoke is expelled at high temperatures from the ground at the bottom of the river, creating Sulphur bubbles. Day 5:After the amazing breakfast you will do the hike in the National Park Manuel Antonio. In this particular tour, you’ll hike through the rainforest along 1,500 meters of easy-access trails in an estimated time of 2.5 to 3 hours, with an experienced & bilingual naturalist interpreter, certified by the Costa Rican Tourism Board. Your guide, equipped with a high-powered spotting scope, will help you locate the vast variety of flora and fauna in their natural habitat, you can also use their telescope to take pictures of the animals up close. You will have the chance to spot Howler, white-faced, and Titi monkeys, plus Agutis, and, if you are lucky, the beautiful Poison Dart Frog (Dendrobates auratus), all while learning about the diet, habits, and many more facts about the variety of species you’ll encounter during this incredible nature adventure. Unique Caño Negro is one of the most amazing trips for incredible bird watching (on dry season) and wildlife in Costa Rica. The tour leaves La Fortuna at 7:30 a.m. On the way to Caño Negro you will have the opportunity to learn about agriculture plantations that Costa Rica raise such as yuca, papaya, pineapple, sugar cane and orange. Then you will arrive to a restaurant called “El Caiman”, where you will enjoy a welcome drink & snack, after that you will start the trip by boat on Rio Frio (cold) river. Day 7:Today you will be picked up or drive to Sarapiqui (known as Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui). You will do the best chocolate tour and taste one of the most delectable food from the rainforest. During this tour you will be taken through Tirimbina rainforest across the longest hanging bridge in the region to a traditional cacao plantation where you will have the opportunity to taste the cacao bean at its different stages in the process of making chocolate, and also be involved with different preparations of it, so make sure your appetite is ready! Day 8:You will have a day tour to the Sarapiquí River which is known as the scenic river of Costa Rica’s tropical rain forest, with 35 Kilometers through forest reserves, stunning views and full of enjoyment for everyone. You will do 13 Km of Classes II and III for beginners and intermediates white water rafting so you can enjoy this river in an exciting way. At night, you will discover the rainforest in this unique opportunity. During this tour you will be guided across Tirimbina’s suspended bridge and explore the rainforest when it is dark and when most of the rainforest animals are active, you may have the opportunity to spot animals like sloths, the red-eyed tree frog, porcupine, kinkayou and more. Day 2:After breakfast you will take a tour to the Irazu volcano, Lankaster garden and Orosi Valley. The tour will begin with a light trek to the crater of the Irazu Volcano. As you descend to the city of Cartago you will stop at the Virgin of the Angels Basilica – a famous peregrination site for many believers, some of which travel for days or even weeks by foot, in a pilgrimage of faith, to the site. Next, you will stop at the Lankester Gardens, a University of Costa Rica Center for investigation that protects more than 800 species of orchids, bromeliads and countless species of other plants. Then, you will continue to the Valley of Orosi, an area that overflows with unparalleled beauty. Day 7:You will drive or be picked up to go to the Santa Elena’s Reserve Cloud forest, exploring and discovering the corners of the Reserve, they offer a network of 5 trails enabled for your personal experience. From a short walk on a path adapted to accessibility and law 7600, for children, seniors and for people with different abilities (Young World Trail), to a completely natural trail for those who like adventure and steep routes (Caño Trail Black). Then in the afternoon you will enjoy the only zip-line tour built entirely inside the cloud forest. In this tour, visitors cross through the unique cloud forest canopy suspended over the forest while attached to high weight-capacity cables and using the specialized climbing gear. Day 9:Today you will be picked up after breakfast to do the Combination Tour with Hanging Bridges, Waterfall Fortuna, trail 1968 Volcano and hot springs. You will start the tour visiting the hanging bridges option consists of a hike on a 1.9 mile (3.1 km) trail on which you can enjoy the rain forest flora and fauna. The trail crosses nine fixed bridges and six suspended bridges which is laid out at a maximum grade of seven degrees so that anyone can walk it. The next stop is the La Fortuna Waterfall. From the trail head you will hike approximately 15 minutes before reaching this majestic waterfall where you can swim or just enjoy its beauty. Lunch is next in a restaurant in the area of La Fortuna. Following lunch, you’ll have the opportunity to rest before embarking on the volcano hike. You will enjoy a very educative walk, the naturalist guide will introduce you to the geological formation of the area and the regeneration of flora since the last volcano eruption. Day 12:You will have a day tour to the national Park Cahuita. The tour includes two parts, the hike in the National Park Cahuita and then snorkeling. A guide will take you to different points between Punta Cahuita and the town of Cahuita (7 km) observing various types of animals and flora. Then or before depending of the tide you will do the snorkeling and will take a boat around the National Park of Cahuita, which has the most biodiversity per square meter in the world.; you can practice Snorkeling for approximately two hours in the Reef which is the most important coral in Costa Rica, observing 35 distinct species of coral, 123 species of fish tropical, 3 species of Sharks, 6 species of moray eels, 3 species of hedgehogs, 140 mollusks, 44 crustaceans, 128 seaweed, sea turtles, sea cucumbers, sea sponges, lobsters, shrimp, among others. Day 2:Today you will drive to Sarapiqui (known as Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui). You will do the best chocolate tour and taste one of the most delectable food from the rainforest. During this tour you will be taken through Tirimbina rainforest across the longest hanging bridge in the region to a traditional cacao plantation where you will have the opportunity to taste the cacao bean at its different stages in the process of making chocolate and also be involved with their different preparation, so make sure your appetite is ready! Day 9: You will go to do a hike to the National Park Rincon de la Vieja, in the Las Pailas section and Waterfall La Cangreja. Once you arrive at the park, the incredible natural scenery of this wild area of Costa Rica will take your breath away. You will experience to be close to a volcano, there are many opportunities to see how a real volcano looks and acts. You will see in this area many different natural hot springs and also the boiling mud pots are fascinating to find and watch. After it you will hike to the Waterfall La Cangreja, which is a 5km hike inside the national park to reach the waterfall. Along the trail you can see wildlife such as white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys and spider monkeys, coatis, armadillos, agoutis, iguanas, and birds such as the bobo bird or the emerald tucancillo. From 40 meters high, a bubbling white water flow comes out from among the green forest, and the La Cangreja Waterfall forms a transparent pool of blue water at its base. Copper minerals that come from the volcano, dissolved in the water, give the water a heavenly blue color. Day 5:After the amazing breakfast you will do the hike in the National Park Manuel Antonio. In this particular tour, you’ll hike through the rainforest along 1,500 meters of easy-access trails in an estimated time of 2.5 to 3 hours, with an experienced & bilingual naturalist interpreter, certified by the Costa Rican Tourism Board. Your guide, equipped with a high-powered spotting scope, will help you locate the vast variety of flora and fauna in their natural habitat, you can also use their telescope to take pictures of the animals up close. Day 8:This day is for the Zip line Tour – Flight of the Toucan, imitates the flight of the chestnut-mandibled toucan, as it leaps off a branch, swoops down through the forest and then up into another tree. On this tour, 8 separate cable rides take you from one ridge top to another, across valleys and streams. There are 14 land-based platforms and 1 tree platform with a view of the coast. The Flight of the Toucan zip line tour is a rainforest experience and a canopy adventure, suitable for the whole family. Most of the groups see wildlife and birds such as monkeys, sloths, and toucans, especially on the 45-minute ecological hike up to the first cable. Day 10:You will have a day of adventure in the sea today. This Kayak and snorkeling trip begin at low tide as the waves go to one side of the Tombolo or better known as the Whale’s Tail, which is one of the best spot for snorkeling in Costa Rica and at the Ballena Marine National Park. You will paddle to this point for 30 to 45 minutes, depending on your experience. While paddling to one of the best Costa Rican reefs you will enjoy a magnificent view of the mountains and the coast of Costa Ballena and Uvita. As soon you arrive to the reefs, your guide will give you the instructions to start the Snorkeling session that last between 40 minutes to one hour. The Caño Island is lying in the beautiful blue Pacific Ocean, some 20 km offshore from the Osa Peninsula at Drake Bay, Isla del Caño or Caño Island is an amazing marine biological reserve in Costa Rica. Part of Puntarenas province and just northeast of the Corcovado National Park, Caño Island is an island of considerable geographical and archeological importance. Fifteen kilometers from the Port of San Pedrillo, this 300-hectare piece of land was formerly a cemetery or burial ground dating back to the pre-Columbian era. According to researchers, this island was believed to have been formed when over 50 million years ago the earth’s tectonic plates moved, causing this island to emerge. The real beauty of Caño Island is not found on its land, but underwater. This island’s virgin waters are some of the bluest in the country, and are home to a spectacular variety of stunning marine flora and fauna as well as some gorgeous coral reefs. Day 3:Today you will be picked up after breakfast to do the Combination Tour with Hanging Bridges, Waterfall Fortuna, trail 1968 Volcano and hot springs. You will start the tour visiting the hanging bridges option consists of a hike on a 1.9 mile (3.1 km) trail on which you can enjoy the rain forest flora and fauna. The trail crosses nine fixed bridges and six suspended bridges which is laid out at a maximum grade of seven degrees so that anyone can walk it. The next stop is the La Fortuna Waterfall. From the trail head you will hike approximately 15 minutes before reaching this majestic waterfall where you can swim or just enjoy its beauty. Lunch is next in a restaurant in the area of La Fortuna. Following lunch, you’ll have the opportunity to rest before embarking on the volcano hike. You will enjoy a very educative walk, the naturalist guide will introduce you to the geological formation of the area and the regeneration of flora since the last volcano eruption. Day 4:After breakfast you will be picked up or you can drive to Monteverde. Day 5:You will drive or can be picked up to go to the Santa Elena’s Reserve Cloud forest, exploring and discovering the corners of the Reserve, they offer a network of 5 trails enabled for your personal experience. From a short walk on a path adapted to accessibility and law 7600, for children, seniors and for people with different abilities (Young World Trail), to a completely natural trail for those who like adventure and steep routes (Caño Trail Black). Then in the afternoon you will enjoy the only zip-line tour built entirely inside the cloud forest. In this tour, visitors cross through the unique cloud forest canopy suspended over the forest while attached to high weight-capacity cables and using the specialized climbing gear. Day 9:Today you will drive or be picked up to go to Santa Teresa and will have the free day. This town is sitting on the western edge of the Nicoya Peninsula, Santa Teresa is a tiny beach village that draws in a lot of surfers. In the last several years, this laid-back town has blossomed into a booming travel destination. Despite its size, Santa Teresa has been hailed as world-class surfing spot in Costa Rica, with gorgeous white sandy beaches and swells that put a smile on surfers' faces year-round. Day 10:You will be picked up to go to the natural reserve Cabo Blanco. This historical protected area was the first of its kind to be created in Costa Rica, and since then, it has expanded to include a large area of forest located in the extreme south of the Nicoya Peninsula. Day 11:Today you will have a boat adventure to arrive to the Tortuga Island, which is located in the Gulf of Nicoya across from the Curu Wildlife Reserve.The boat trip takes around 30 minutes, and when you arrive to Tortuga Island we will prepare a delicious BBQ on the beach. You can choose from fish, chicken, potatoes, and fruit. You can also have a refreshing beer or water. Tourists will have a couple of hours to go snorkeling and enjoy the island’s marine wildlife. Day 12: You will drive or be picked up to go to Manuel Antonio, first you will drive until Paquera and then you will cross the ocean in a ferry of Paquera for around 1,5 hours. An amazing flora & fauna that you can discover visiting the National Park as well as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Day 13:After the amazing breakfast you will do the hike in the National Park Manuel Antonio. In this particular tour, you’ll hike through the rainforest along 1,500 meters of easy-access trails in an estimated time of 2.5 to 3 hours, with an experienced & bilingual naturalist interpreter, certified by the Costa Rican Tourism Board. Your guide, equipped with a high-powered spotting scope, will help you locate the vast variety of flora and fauna in their natural habitat, you can also use their telescope to take pictures of the animals up close. You will have the chance to spot Howler, white-faced, and Titi monkeys, plus Agutis, and, if you are lucky, the beautiful Poison Dart Frog (Dendrobates auratus), all while learning about the diet, habits, and many more facts about the variety of species you’ll encounter during this incredible nature adventure. Day 2:Early morning you will drive to Pavona. You will pass by the Braulio Carrillo National Park and admire the biodiversity of an astonishing protected area in Costa Rica, a primary forest in 95% of its extension. Then you will stop for breakfast, and leave the car in the parking lot in Pavona and will board a comfortable boat upon arrival to the port and let this extraordinarily exotic paradise enchant you, as you travel along the Tortuguero Canals. You will have a one-in-a-lifetime experience in this unique place surrounded by a great variety of flora and fauna of breathtaking beauty. Tortuguero National Park (47,000 acres) and the surrounding area is truly a birder's paradise. The beautiful swamp forests, freshwater sloughs, beach, river mouth and primary and secondary forest habitats support over 300 resident and migrant bird species. Bird enthusiasts visiting Tortuguero can expect to see most of these bird species within a relatively small area. Day 3:You will discover the flavors of Costa Rica with breakfast at the Lodge and then you will hike through the Lodge's private trail to see the biodiversity around it. A charming and quiet town, La Fortuna is easily accessible from the capital city San Jose (about a 3,5-hour drive), and offers some panoramic views of the spectacular Arenal Volcano, until December 2010 it was Costa Rica’s most active volcano. Some spectacular birds that you can encounter in this area include Three-wattled Bellbirds, Crested Guans, Orange-bellied Trogons, White Hawks, Laughing Falcons, Red-lored Parrots, Green Herons, Squirrel Cuckoos, Great Potoos, Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, Chestnut-mandibled Toucans, and Keel-billed Toucans. Day 6:You will wake up with the birds sounds and then go to breakfast. After the early breakfast, you will go do the boat tour in the Reserva Caño Negro. Unique Caño Negro is one of the most amazing trips for incredible bird watching (on dry season) and wildlife in Costa Rica. The tour leaves La Fortuna at 7:30 a.m. On the way to Caño Negro you will have the opportunity to learn about agriculture plantations that Costa Rica raise such as yuca, papaya, pineapple, sugar cane and orange. Then you will arrive to a restaurant called “El Caiman”, where you will enjoy a welcome drink & snack, after that you will start the trip by boat on Rio Frio (cold) river. Day 7:Today you will drive to the area of Tárcoles, to go to Cerro Lodge. On the property it is possible to take self-guided walks through the gardens and visit our Mirador from where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Gulf of Nicoya and the mountain ranges that surround us. It is also possible to reach one of the banks of the Tárcoles River by following the path of the old La Barca street from where in past times the goods that were required in Jacó were transported before the existence of highway 34. Cerro Lodge was built to provide the best service to nature lovers, especially birdhouses and photographers. It is surrounded by a beautiful landscape, overlooking the sea and the mountains. Day 8:After breakfast you will be driven to Carara National Park. This incredible protected area measures about 4,700 Hectares and is home to approximately 48% of Costa Rica’s aviary species. This tour will show you the importance of the region, as it is situated in a transitional region between the tropical dry forest and the humid pacific rainforest. Carara Preserve showcases colorful species of flora and fauna from a varied ecosystem. This sanctuary is populated by many different species of birds and animals, amongst them the white face and howler monkeys, iguanas, toucans and trogons. Carara also holds an important population of scarlet macaws, the main attraction in town. After admiring nature during your hike in the park, you’ll enjoy our famous boat tour on Tárcoles River for a unique crocodile and wildlife sightseeing experience, through this important ecosystem. Our captain will surely spot the biggest crocodiles in the river for you to enjoy a great up close encounter with these magnificent reptiles. You’ll be amazed by the wide diversity of birds we find in this area. Your guide will point out different kinds of mammals, birds and reptiles that flourish in this mangrove. Depending on the season you will be able to spot different migratory aviary species; from October to April you can glimpse ospreys, gulls, cormorants, pelicans and frigates. Day 9:You will drive to Dominical and arrive to the amazing hotel Hacienda Barú. The Ecolodge is surrounded by Baru National Wildlife Refuge which conserves 330 hectares (815 acres) of tropical rainforest, mangrove, wetlands, river bank, and beach front. This wide variety of ecosystems means a high level of biodiversity, and that is why Bird Watchers have sighted over 365 species on the refuge. Day 10:After a cup of coffee, we will take you by car to the Hacienda Barú Biological Research Center a couple of kilometers away. From there you will hike through secondary forest with your sharp-eyed guide. After about an hour you will arrive at rookery where egrets, herons and ibis are often found. From the rookery you will continue along the edge of the mangrove and complete the loop back to the Biological Research Center. You will have a typical Costa Rican breakfast at the Biological Research Center. The final leg of the tour includes secondary forest and the beach, your best opportunities to observe shore birds such as whimbrels, plovers, phalaropes, sandpipers and sanderlings, pelicans and frigate birds. From the beach it is a short walk back to the Guide Center, where you began. Then in the afternoon you will do the Zip line Tour – Flight of the Toucan, imitates the flight of the chestnut-mandibled toucan, as it leaps off a branch, swoops down through the forest and then up into another tree. On this tour, 8 separate cable rides take you from one ridge top to another, across valleys and streams. There are 14 land-based platforms and 1 tree platform with a view of the coast. The Flight of the Toucan zip line tour is a rainforest experience and a canopy adventure, suitable for the whole family. Most of the groups see wildlife and birds such as monkeys, sloths, and toucans, especially on the 45-minute ecological hike up to the first cable. Day 11:Today you will drive to San Gerardo de Dota, this little place is hidden along the Savegre River Valley near Los Quetzales National Park. It is located only 85 kilometers from the capital, San José. Travelers come here attracted by the cloud forest that surrounds this region, which is home to quetzals, one of the most beautiful birds in the world. In this area you can observe quetzals throughout the year, and you can also see a lot of other birds. Day 12:Normally this tour begins early morning. Birding is the main activity in the San Gerardo de Dota Valley. The area is especially well known for seeing the Quetzal or Paradise Bird (Pharomachrus mocinno), but many other species of birds are found in this habitat. You will go in search of the Quetzal(Paradise Bird) the emblematic bird in the San Gerardo de Dota Valley. The tour lasts 4 hours.
